General Information
Located in Silver City, New Mexico, Western New Mexico University has served the people of the state of New Mexico and its surrounding areas as a comprehensive, regional, rural, public coeducational university since 1893 and caters to a student body diverse in age, culture, language and ethnic background.
WNMU has continued to be recognized for its quality standards over the last decade. The University was pre- sented the Zia Award in 2004, the top recognition given to organizations for performance excellence by Quality New Mexico. WNMU is the first four-year university in the state to earch the QNMU Zia Award. QNM has continued to recognize WNMU with Pinon and Companero honors in 2008 and 2009. WNMU was recognized as the Large Business of the Year by the Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce in 2006.

Student Information
Enrollment
Total fall 2009 enrollment for WNMU was 3,269. The Silver City campus was 2,564; Deming, 378; Gallup, 121; Truth or Consequences, 65; and Lordsburg, 31. An additional 110 students were enrolled through online courses and not on a specific campus.
Programs
WNMU offers more than 70 areas of study. Ten master degrees, 41 baccalauereate degrees, and 18 associate degrees and certificate programs are available. Fields of study include accounting, criminal justice, education, nursing, occupational therapy, and zoology.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Of 81 colleges and universities in the area, WNMU remains the fifth lowest in tuition. Tuition and fees for the 2008-09 academic year was $1635.25 per semester. More than 80% of WNMU students receieve financial assistance each academic year. WNMU participates in the Western Undergraduate Exchange program (WUE) allowing out-of-state students in 13 states to pay in-state tuition.

Student Life
Organizations and Activities
Special-interest organizations and the Student Activities Office promote social life on campus through a variety of entertainments for the student body, including dances, tournaments, lectures, intramurals and other special events. The Student Activities office initiates a monthly student activities calendar complete with all information concerning special events, activities, and other campus news.
Student organizations at WNMU are sanctioned according to the provisions of the Associated Students Constitution and includes religious clubs, honorees, service organizations, academically-oriented groups and social clubs. Membership is restricted only by the by-laws of the individual organization.
Arts Information
The Department of Expressive Arts encompasses the fine arts in the Visual Arts, Music, and Theatre disciplines, all of which contribute to the university’s mission of teaching excellence as its preeminent goal. The Department of Expressive Arts has established its specific mission of embracing and encouraging self-discovery, acquiring skills, and knowledge of the creative arts.More information

Faculty Information
Students receive personalized attention from qualified instructors. More than 90% of WNMU’s professors have terminal degrees and the student to faculty ratio is 13 to 1.
Disability services
The Coordinator for Students with Special Needs is responsible for providing students with disabilities information about services available at WNMU provides. Whenever possible, the Coordinator will work with individuals or groups to facili- tate the needs or specially required accommodations of disabled students. The University strives to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) both as to the letter of the law and to its spirit.
Types of assistance provided are note takers, interpreters, readers, guides, lecture recorders, transcribers and academic tutors.
