    Why Choose SVC?

With a historic mansion as our primary academic building, a 371-acre campus, a faculty committed to the joy of teaching, and a friendly, safe College community, SVC is a habitat for learning, for discovery, for achievement. As reflected by our 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio, we provide an environment where students are recognized as individuals, with unique talents, interests and goals.

    How Does SVC Choose Students?

Because of our individualized approach, we use a portfolio method to determine a student's eligibility. We understand that one person may excel academically, while another may exhibit excellent leadership skills. Our admission's review, therefore, considers each student's entire application, and as a result, the SVC community is made up of diverse individuals.

    Academics

Southern Vermont College academics offer you the opportunity to discover and develop your true potential and be fully prepared to enter the job market. The College's strong liberal arts education, combined with the expertise learned in our many internships, workshops, and degree programs, provide the perfect blend of skills necessary to succeed in the workplace and throughout life.
Opportunities for graduates of the Radiologic Technology program are plentiful and diverse. Radiologic technologists have many employment choices and a variety of career and educational options including completion of a bachelor degree and specialization in the field. A minor in Information Technology or Environmental Studies can enhance career opportunities for graduates in any major.

Depending on their major and minor fields of study, students are prepared to enter career fields such as business administration and business management. Students are also prepared for graduate study in many business degree programs. Graduates of Southern Vermont College are eligible for acceptance into an MBA program at Graduate College of Union University, Clarkson University and Sage Graduate School.

Depending on their major and perhaps minor, students are prepared to enter careers in fields such as publishing, public relations, advertising, marketing, journalism, media management, and mid-level management. In order to be employed as a registered nurse, a person must be licensed by the state in which he or she will practice. The associate's degree in Nursing enables students to apply for licensure by examination through any State Board of Nursing. Successful completion of the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) and compliance with all requirements for licensure as established by the State Board of Nursing is required for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Depending on their major, students are prepared to enter careers in fields such as human services; human services management; federal, state, and local law enforcement; education; government service; nonprofit organizations; and business. Students are also prepared for graduate study in psychology, social work, and criminal justice and for law school.

    Student Life

College is more than classroom lectures, library research, term papers and final exams that lead to a degree. College is about enhancing your experiences through involvement in campus activities, taking new adventures and forming friendships to last a lifetime. College is about accepting personal challenges, broadening your skills and making your future your reality! The Student Life Department can help you make the most of your college experience.

There are many opportunities for students to participate in a variety of extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Though our campus is small, we offer a wide variety of the social, cultural and educational programs and activities that you expect from any college or university.

    Residence Life
Southern Vermont College's Residence Life program encourages all students to develop independence, responsibility, accountability, and leadership experiences in conjunction with their classroom experiences. Each residence hall has Community Advisors (CAs) to help residents. CAs are valuable resources for all students on campus. Their main responsibilities are the safety, security, and well-being of the resident students. They offer educational and recreational programs that all students are encouraged to attend. The staff of CAs are supervised and trained by the Director of Residence Life.

We all need to work together to live in a healthy and safe community. All students and staff are encouraged to report any vandalism that they may witness to Security or to any member of the Residence Life staff. We also invite and encourage all members of our community to participate in our events and offer suggestions, ideas, and assistance. Southern Vermont College is a wonderful place to live, and we all must work together to keep it that way. Residence Hall living can be a very important part of a student's educational experience. Many lifelong friendships have developed from college roommate relationships. Southern Vermont College encourages all full-time students to take advantage of the on-campus housing facilities.

    Study Abroad Information

Southern Vermont College students wishing to study abroad are required to do so through a program sponsored by an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning. Study abroad is recommended for the spring semester of the junior year or for the summer between the junior and senior year. Students must apply for permission to study abroad from the Provost by filing an application which identifies the course work that will be completed at the foreign institution and for which degree requirements those courses will substitute. The student should work with his or her academic advisor in selecting an appropriate study abroad program, in the selection of course work, and in identifying how the course work will be applied toward an SVC degree. A student must request a leave-of-absence for the semester he or she will be abroad.
