Mission Statement
The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College (URG/RGCC) is a unique partnership between a public community college and a four-year comprehensive university. College of Professional Studies
The College of Professional Studies strives to prepare students for full and productive lives with a knowledge base for their academic programs, skills/technologies for intellectual decision making, and a disposition to accept the need for lifelong learning.
Through these Schools the College offers programs and activities preparing individuals for a variety of positions in schools, industry, business, and the arts. The College offers additional services to individuals seeking recertification, renewals of certificates, programs for mid-career changes, or personal enrichment.
College Of Liberal Arts & Sciences
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences comprises four schools:
School of Humanities,
School of Social Sciences,
School of Sciences, and
Holzer School of Nursing. The mission of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is to provide a liberal arts background in the areas of humanities and social sciences, specific competencies related to mathematics and sciences, and career programs related to the disciplines within each school. The college provides the foundation of the courses within the General Education Program that promote critical thinking skills and bridge the knowledge and competencies from a broad-based, educational program to specific careers and occupations.

Living On Campus
The University of Rio Grande offers a variety of opportunities for students to be involved in campus life. Numerous activities that are recreational, educational, and cultural are offered throughout the academic year to accommodate the diverse interests of our students. Past events have included ski and hiking trips, concerts, coffeehouse acts, comedians, out-door carnival attractions, simulators, dances, fundraisers, professional hockey games, and NFL games. Student interests are the driving force behind planning campus activities. The Student Planning Board is comprised of student leaders interested in enhancing the college experience and is responsible for planning most campus events. The group is open to all interested students.on campus and to surrounding neighborhoods

Study Abroad Information
The University of Rio Grande seeks to offer students experiences that promote intellectual and personal growth, including numerous study abroad opportunities. The office of student activities develops and coordinates activities and services to support study abroad and exchange programs by maintaining information, advising, and facilitating opportunities for collaboration with other institutions.
Athletics
Rio Grande offers eleven sports, five for men and
six for women. Men’s programs include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and track and field. Women’s programs consist of basketball,
cross country, softball, track and field, volleyball and soccer.
Rio also offers five junior varsity programs in men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, men’s soccer and softball. Rio is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Mid-South Conference.
Faculty Information
The student faculty ratio is 15:1 and the average class size is 14 students.
Financial Aid
Over 96% of Rio Grande students receive some form of financial assistance. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by the federal government by information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Rio Grande has set March 15, 2011, as the priority filing deadline. Students can submit the FAFSA after that date, but those students submitting their FAFSA prior to Rio’s filing deadline may be eligible to receive additional financial aid.
