Mission Statement
Maharishi University of Management was founded in 1971 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to fulfill the highest ideals of education. Foremost among these ideals is developing the full potential of consciousness in every student — to help students develop the ability to think and act in accord with the laws of nature and to live fulfilled and successful lives. This fulfills the long-sought goal of education: to produce fully developed individuals, citizens who can fulfill their own aspirations while promoting all good in society.
MUM is the only accredited university offering Consciousness-Based education to develop the inner potential of each student. Students discover how each field of study is connected at the deepest level of their own Self, making learning more satisfying, relevant, and exciting. All students and faculty at MUM practice the Transcendental Meditation technique (TM). Extensive research has found the TM improves creativity and learning ability, and reduces stress.MUM uses the block system - our students are fully immersed in one course each month, and then move on to the next course.
The block system is immensely popular with our students because they learn more, and it eliminates the stress of taking 4 or 5 subjects at once. MUM is a coed school with 14 undergraduate majors, 7 Master’s degree programs and 3 PhD tracks. It is a Higher Learning Commission accredited university and its graduates have gone on to success in a wide variety of professions, including finance, theatre, real estate, web marketing, publishing, entrepreneurship, aeronautics, sustainable agriculture, accounting, computer programming, professional sports, dance, investing, etc.MUM has a highly diverse student population from multiple countries.

Student Life
MUM students can choose from a wide a variety of club activities and an extremely varied arts scene in the community, with opportunities to both attend and participate in performances in theatre, dance and music Fairfield, Iowa is a hotbed of artistic and entrepreneurial activity. A recent publication said "The city’s growing digital-media cluster and ongoing banquet of performing arts events enhance Fairfield’s reputation as a hub for the arts. The rich pool of talented performers, artists, programmers, filmmakers, and web designers who live in the city and the available mentoring and training available in this sector should foster new business creation." MUM students and MUM graduates play a key role in these activities as both performers and entrepreneurs. MUM students enjoy a wide variety of athletic opportunities, including indoor tennis, indoor track, wall climbing, cross country skiing, parkour training, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, aerobics, hip hop dance club, canoeing, camping, Contact Improv, etc.
Study Abroad
Maharishi University has a program known as the Rotating University, in which our students can take courses of study abroad, usually of 4–6 weeks duration. The purpose of these courses is to develop “international citizens” who understand and appreciate the cultures and traditions of nations around the world. Our students prefer this approach to study abroad since it enables them to travel and study as a group with their friends. Most courses focus on academic topics relevant to the culture. Some include the study of local language and geography as well. In every course students learn to manage their daily study and travel in accordance with the customs of that country.
