Other Diverse things about yourself that you want to share: Age 18

Why did you choose to attend your current school? Has the world’s “best” architecture program.

What is your school’s reputation for diversity? Cornell is very diverse. I can attest to that. My architecture class is composed of less than sixty people of all different colors, countries, orientations, etc.

What’s the reality?  How diverse is your campus? Very very diverse. A lot of people from the New York/New Jersey area. However, my architecture class is composed of less than sixty people of all different colors, countries, orientations, etc. Sometimes in studio, three different languages will be spoken.

How comfortable do you feel on your campus? Very comfortable – despite the upcoming winter!

Is diversity discussed at your school? In the classroom?  With your friends?  Does it need to be? Yes, we had a required “Tapestry of Possibilities” presentation to discuss diversity and embracing what Cornell has to offer.

What types of opportunities are there to learn about or celebrate diversity?
    • Clubs or activities: A lot of cultural clubs open to all backgrounds.

    • Special events or speakers. Very diverse speakers, even in just the architecture department which is notorious for being predominately white men, but that’s hardly the case.

    • Academic options (specific majors or classes). My roommate is minoring in Hispanic Studies, and I know there are many other options.
How aware of diversity do your professors seem to be?  Can you recall any diversity issues that were brought up in the classroom?  Has anything “great” or “offensive” happened diversity-wise? Nothing offensive or great. The professors are diverse.

Do your classes include books or opinions from a diverse range of experts and authors?
    Yes.

Describe any recent incidents of discrimination that took place on your campus.  How was the issue addressed?  Do you think it was addressed appropriately? None yet!

How does the school administration support diversity? Obviously, the admissions council makes diversity a priority. There are many different groups admitted and respected.

If you could go back in time, would you choose to attend the same school?  Why or why not? YES! Not a question.

What do you like best about your school? The beautiful scenery and all the opportunities available to the students.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? Warmer weather.

What else would you like potential students to know about your school? We have a lot of fun if you set priorities and have a good work ethic as well!
