The IIT Charles Pierce Scholars Program honors Charles W. Pierce, a 1901 graduate of IIT (then known as Armour Institute of Technology) who was the first African American to receive a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
The program offers advanced second- and third-year undergraduate students visiting research experience at the leading science, technology, engineering, and mathematics university in Chicago — one of the country's most exciting and culturally diverse cities.
As a Charles Pierce Scholar, you will:
- Take courses at a university with strengths in STEM disciplines
- Participate in IIT's unique
Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program
- Conduct hands-on research in STEM fields
- Learn from workshops, seminars, fieldtrips, and IIT alumni mentors
- Learn about Chicago-area Ph.D. programs

Chemical and Biological Engineering website.
